If you need new, happy and culture-rich music to indulge your ears, consider this new artist: Zuhura Othman Soud, stage name ZUCHU is a 27-year-old Tanzanian singer and songwriter. YouTube awarded her the silver plaque button for hitting 100,000 subscribers within a week – the first female artist to hit that milestone from East Africa, and African Muzik Magazine Awards named ZUCHU in 2020, winner of the “Emerging Artist Award”. ZUCHU performs in English and Swahili and likes to experiment with the Tanzanian genre Bongo Flava, also Afro-pop and R&B. After high school, ZUCHU wanted to attend university and study law but her mother, being a musician herself, recognized the talent and urged ZUCHU to seek a career in music instead.
Per BoomPlay streaming app, her extended play record was the most played album in Tanzania in 2020 and has received several endorsements, including Tourism Ambassador Zanzibar 2021 and Tridea Cosmetics ambassador.
