David Marvin Blake a.k.a DJ Quik from Compton will perform at The Observatory in the city of Santa Ana on Monday, November 29th starting at 7:00 pm.
Dj Quik’s stage name reflects his ability to produce songs in a short period of time. He is a record producer, songwriter and American rapper known for his production in the G-Funk style of West Coast hip-hop.
He began selling homemade mixtapes at the age of 16 in 1987 after receiving a turntable in the 8th grade. He dropped out of high school and was a member of the Westside Tree Top Piru and began doing shows DJing around Southern California, many of which ended in rival gang-related altercations. For three years, Dj Quick was homeless because his mother lost her home due to foreclosure.
But his talent stayed and Dj Quick soon got the interest of record labels after a mixtape following. In 1991 his debut album Quik is the name, was led by the success of his two top 20 R&B singles, “Tonite” and “Born and Raised in Compton”. The album was number 10 on the album charts and was Platinum by the RIAA.
With little or no credit, “David Blake” is the name due to contracts, worked in 2Pac’s All Eyez On Me album, also the song “Thug Passion” and other albums like Snoop Dogg’s “Dogg Food” and “Tha Doggfather”.
Quik has worked and produced for Truth Hurts’ “Addictive”, The Luniz, Janet Jackson, Shaquille O’Neil, Nate Dogg, Jermaine Dupri, Whitney Houston, Xzibit, Will Smith, Dr. Dre, and many others.
Take this opportunity to see this legend perform close to you and hear why so many stars have gravitated towards his skills.
General admission cost is a very affordable price of $32.50. All ages welcome. Doors: 7:00 pm and show: 8:00 pm. Covid restrictions apply please check website. For more information: https://www.livenation.com/event/vvG10ZpYK6D04t/dj-quik
