GSBookings had the opportunity to sit down with the talented Gina Brooklyn. Here is the exclusive interview:
What motivated you to do music?
I’ve always loved music and grew up all around it. When I was really young, I knew I wanted to be a singer, probably around 5, but it wasn’t until I was 13 that I realized I wanted to be a songwriter too. Singing & songwriting were two things that motivated me, gave me purpose, and helped me cope with bouts of depression. To this day it helps relieve my anxiety, and I always feel good after singing for hours or writing pages & pages of music! I’m so grateful to have been given the ability to make art…I honestly have no idea what I’d do without it.
Tell me about your current project?
Currently I’m releasing singles from my upcoming EP one by one. At the end of September I’ll be releasing a new Pop/EDM song!! I’m really excited for this one- it’s something I wouldn’t normally write/release, but it does represent a happy & carefree side of me. It’s a super fun song!
What is something you want your fans and listeners to know about you?
That’s a good question. I guess the one thing I want them to know about me is that I really care about the environment. I try to support ethical makeup brands, ethical clothing brands, and local thrift stores. The majority of my closet is all thrifted. I’ve been using a lot of Pacifica makeup recently. I really appreciate everything that the Pacifica brand stands for! They’re cruelty free, vegan, & they even offer a recycling program for their product containers. Once you’re done using a product of theirs, they email you a shipping label to print out. You can grab an empty box, put the empty product container inside, put the shipping label on it and then ship it right back to them. They recycle their empty containers for future use! I’d love to collaborate with them one day. I also thrift not only for the challenge of finding unique clothes to perform in, but for the environmental aspect of it! So many popular clothing companies participate in the “fast fashion” industry. It’s really damaging the world around us. Environmentally speaking, it’s really hurting the people in other countries who continue to produce the clothing for them. I highly recommend watching a documentary called “The True Cost”. It’s heartbreaking! My mindset completely changed after I watched it. It was one of the best documentaries I’ve ever seen!
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Oh gosh! In five years I hope to have many songs placed in the media and with other artists, as well as being a well-known artist myself! It would be so amazing to tour globally, that’s my ultimate goal- just to travel the world with my music! I also hope to be living in NYC, my favorite place in the whole world. It’s so amazing there!
What’s next for Gina?
After my EP is released, I hope to be playing at some of the more popular music festivals as well as working on another EP! I’ve been writing a lot and I have quite a few songs that I think would be fun to release. We’ll see where this journey takes me! I’m just going with the flow.
