Nkosinathi Innocent Maphumulo or better known as Black Coffee is one of South African multi-award winning DJ and record producer. Black Coffee got his first big break when he was selected as one of the two South Africa participants for the Red Bull Music Academy in 2003. This jumpstarted his career as a DJ, and his first single was released.
In 2005, Black Coffee released his debut album “Black Coffee”. It was a very powerful debut. The success of his album earned him the award for The Best Urban Dance album at the 2006 South African Music Awards. Turning him into a household name and begin to lead the way for house music in South African.
By 2007, he released his second album titled “Have Another One”. After that, Black Coffee was unstoppable. He has released 6 albums and has won 12 awards including, Best Male Artist, Best Produced Album, and Breakthrough DJ Of The Year.
This past summer Black Coffee won his first BET award for Best International Act being the first artist from South Africa to win.
In September of 2015, he released his latest Album “Pieces of Me”, with his hit single “We Dance Again” that topped the charts weeks after being released, and his album went Platinum is South African a month later. Black Coffee is currently on tour, traveling all over the world, from Tokyo, Canada, Switzerland, London, and the USA. Catch him if you can! Here’s a clip of him at one of his shows.
