The South African rapper Kiernan Jarrid Forbes, better known as AKA, began his musical career in 2002, when he was part of a rap group named “Entity”, and gained popularity in 2005 when the rap group was nominated for Best African Hip Hop in the KORA Awards. After some issues the group came to an end in 2006.

After the group split AKA began to study sound engineering, and created his own production company with two colleagues, Buks and Kamza. AKA worked on few projects with his production company but later launched his solo career in 2009. His debut album “ Altar Ego” was a success.  He was also named “Prince of South African Rap” by the national newspapers, not only was he recognized for his talent but also his style, winning “Best Dressed Man” at the GQ Awards in South Africa.

AKA has also worked with many American rappers like Kanye West, Snoop Dogg, and Kendrick Lamar as an opening act in their South African tours. The success of this album has gained so much success in his home country and across the continent. Also, certified Gold by the Recording Industry of South Africa.  He recently worked with the new and popular South African rapper, Emtee.

The future is looking bright for AKA, BBC 1Xtra’s selected him as “Hot For 2016” the same list that predicted megastars successes for popular artist, The Weeknd and Sam Smith.  Check him out in his music video for “Composure”.
