Independent Spotlight: Getting Ready Summer: Favorite hip-hop track.
Every summer has a story, and it is not complete without the perfect summer jam. No one has done it better than the Dove Shack with their 1995 track “summertime in the LBC”, it was originally made for the soundtrack of Russell Simmon’s “The Show”, but it made its way to the radio, on to peoples summer jam playlist, and to the top of the charts. Two decades later, it is still one of the favorite summer jams. The right song can turn a simple moment into something memorable.
Summer in the LBC is more than palm trees and ocean breeze. “Damn, it’s hot than a mutha/I’m smuthareen ribs wit barbecue sauce/Fools get tossed if they reach across my barbacue grill/So continue tah chill/At King’s park in the LBC/That’s where ya’ll find me/Hangin wit my homies and my friends/We got the Coke and Henn” The Dove shack paints the perfect summer afternoon. The smooth instrumental, and feel-good lyrics make it the perfect song to ride along to, groove to, play while you barbecue, or at a backyard boogie.
Triggering memories of being young with no responsibilities. School is out and your only worry is to have a much fun as possible for the next 90-days of summer vacation. “Three months of pleasure/How can I measure/The relaxation/All the fun I’m facin.” We may no longer be children out of school with no responsibilities, but this track makes us reminisce about those summers, and that is why it is still one of the favorite summer tracks. Now, sit back play this track and wait for summer.
