Nancy Reagan, former first lady married to the 40th President of the United States, Ronal Reagan, has died. Many first fell in love with Nancy’s during her Hollywood acting days in the 1940s and 50s where she met Ronal Reagan, who was also an actor at the time.
After their acting careers, they took a turn into political world and Ronald Reagan became California’s Governor, making Nancy the states first lady in 1967. Ronald Reagan served two terms as governor but many criticized Nancy and called her snobby because she expressed her concerns about the governors’ mansion.
In 1981, Ronald Reagan was elected president, and her snobby reputation followed Nancy to the white house, but that changed in 1982 when she created a drug abuse and education program, “Just Say No”. The Los Angeles Times declared Nancy Reagan “a model first lady”.
Nancy was more than just the first lady, she was also the presidents’ protector, after the assignation attempt on Ronald Reagan life, never leaving his side, even through his ten-year battle with Alzheimer’s after his presidency.
In 2002, Nancy was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which is the nation’s highest civil award for “her eloquent example of loyalty, courage and abiding love” said then-president George W. Bush.
Now at age 94, Nancy is laid to rest next to her husband, who died in 1994, at the Ronald Reagan Library in Simi Valley, California, always by his side. Nancy Reagan, was a model first lady to many that followed her steps and will continued to be a model for many.
