Maynard Okereke is an artist who was born in Austin, Texas, Known by his artist name NautilusMC, he has lived a life entrenched in music, culture, and personal struggle. His West African roots and adolescent upbringing in the Northwest of Washington, this combination has given him many diverse influences that clearly replicate in his music.
NautilusMC has been creating a buzz in the Northwest scene for years and has laid down a foundation with many other prominent local artists from Portland to Seattle. The release of his debut album “DayDreamin” set a new standard for NW hip hop and his recent mixtape “Positivity” helped developed a strong following both locally and nationally. His music videos for the singles “Lettin’ Go” & “So Intnl” have generated a lot of buzz, which further set his online presence. NautilusMC looks to define his place in the national scene even more with the release of his new V.O.D Video mix series.
“I grew up as a strong Wu-Tang fan and built my whole imagery of hip hop and music through the philosophies of their movement.” Nautilus claimed as he said that Wu-Tang was one of his biggest influences. With so many other cities hitting the forefront and establishing their musical presence, Nautilus is focused and ready to put not only the city of Seattle, but the entire West Coast on the map. With the backing of many other solid up and coming artists and producers in the NW melting pot of talent, Nautilus is hungry for his name to be known in the elite group of MC’s worldwide.
