Zoolay – Independent Spotlight

The west coast of the United States is known to bring forth talented musicians that make people turn their heads to be seen, and this LA duo is said talent. Don Ron and iLLz-1 the MC, known together as Zoolay, is a duo that has a golden era sound buried underneath a revitalizing taste of the new school. The duo started in 2006 as a trio, but later went on as a duo that debuted in 2008 within the LA underground scene with a song titled “Zoology”, which was part of a mix tape, entitled THE APE TAPE hosted by DJ Tommy Blak of Project Blowed.

In 2009, they released their first LP named Blood, Sweat, and Beers (available for listen here). This project was a success and further helped grow their reputation. In 2012, they released their album West Kept Secrets (available for purchase here) and was their biggest success yet. The band’s movements and growing fan base stretches beyond the western region at this point and only success is heading their way.

Don Ron has a more stimulating, brisk flow whose lines touch various polemic topics, including religion and politics. iLLz has a more carefree, chill approach that reminds you of a hazy California day, yet rough and rugged at the same time. As of now, they are working to release their next album set to release in fall 2015 named Still Living Proof. It will be their third release and no doubt make them bigger.

Zoolay is a featured artist on the upcoming GSBookings Mixtape Volume 1, which officially releases Tuesday April 21rst https://soundcloud.com/gsbookings/sets/gsbookings-mixtape-volume-1
