Russell Simmons is the co-founder of Def Jam Records and is considered the force behind the hip-hop revolution. Back in the 1980s, he started promoting musicians from New York City. He also defended the hip-hop culture before the Federal Trade Commission and the U.S. Congress with the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network (HSAN) that he co-found.
“HSAN seeks to foster initiatives aimed at engaging the Hip-Hop generation (age 18 to 45) in community development issues related to equal access to high quality public education and literacy, freedom of speech, voter education, economic advancement, and youth leadership development.” – quote from the organization’s Facebook account.
Russell Simmons has always had a passion for hip-hop that he is venturing into a new project. He wants to take rap music into Broadway in a musical that will feature the early days of hip-hop and will be titled The Scenario. This musical will feature hip-hop’s greatest hits from the mid-80s, mid-90s and the beginning of the millennium. It is also likely that the show will feature artist from Def Jam Records.
The Scenario will be produced by Russell Simmons’s Def Pictures production company. There are two people that have been noted to help with this project which will be producer Scott Prisand and Dan Charnas as the writer for the show’s story.
Keep an eye out all hip-hop genre lovers because the show is set to premiere in late 2016 in New York City, NY. This musical might end up being a big hit and a sellout based on the initial information disclosed by Russell Simmons.
