Love is one of the greatest motivators of all. As for Derrick B. Harden, also known as ‘Dear Derrick’, the first Art Curator and Rapper out of Brooklyn, New York, has released his first retail EP, ‘The Jamie Project’ (Available for order here.)
‘The Jamie Project’ consists of four tracks that are very different from his previous art conceptual mixtapes; ‘The Art of Nothing’; ‘Born 4 Porn’ and ‘.5kg’‘The Jamie Project’ provides a smooth, ‘gangsterism’ tale, of when a thug falls in love — it’s a for sure feel good vibe. It strengthens weak love and reassures strong love through Dear Derrick’s literary journal and personal experiences.
While co-curating with David Chang and Justin Korkidis for David Barnett’s art show, ‘Be Here Now’, at Damon Dash’s Poppington Art Gallery, Dear Derrick simultaneously released the first promotional song + Video, ‘That’s That Ni@@a’, which sparked the buzz and anticipation for this next big release. In the month of May going into June, Dear Derrick notoriously known for his impromptu, organic grassroots marketing, came out with a ‘#TheJamieProject Coming Soon’ social media campaign, releasing seven additional promotional tracks and cover art hinting a possible “The Jamie Project” art show which has been in high demand by many in the art scene. His marketing caught the attention from Arise360 Television Show landing him international broadcast exposure.
Soon after, Dear Derrick continued building on this project from performing at one of Ninjasonik’s ‘Chocolate Sundays’ in Brooklyn to taking it down south to welcoming fans in Miami at ‘SHOTS’ in Wynwood.
‘The Jamie Project’ is based on Dear Derrick being honest in what really inspired him to continue producing and performing music — her name is Jamie. If love and admiration can move mountains this EP is a testament to that theory.
Love is Everything.
